Description
John Lockley is Xhosa Sangoma of South Africa. He studied with the same tribe as Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela.
The Leopard is one of the main totem animals in South African traditional medicine. They demonstrate raw, primal intelligence and interconnectedness with the natural world.
John will teach participants some of the core principles of ‘Leopard medicine’ and how they can reconnect with their sixth sense and intuitive intelligence. In indigenous communities the world over it is seen as imperative for people to follow their inner voice or vision so that one’s destiny or calling is fulfilled. They do this through dream interpretation and ancestral veneration. The job of the Sangoma is to ‘ukuvula indlela’, open the road, and help people find their spiritual direction. Western illnesses like depression and alcoholism are symptoms of spiritual discontentment because people are not following their true calling.
John will lead a small ceremony helping people to reconnect to their ancestors or ‘Izinyanya’, (silent hidden ones), seen as the forces of nature, and guardians in people’s lives. Dreams will be discussed and guidance given on prophetic dreams, and how to better understand the mirage of our nightly journeys. The workshop will be experiential and interactive with live drumming, dancing and singing. “To become like the Leopard we need to learn to dance like the Leopard”.
